ByteDance, the tech giant known for its aggressive expansion in the gaming industry, has recently completed the acquisition of Hangzhou Xinguangliumei Network Technology Co., Ltd. This deal was finalized by ByteDance’s gaming subsidiary, Mutong Technology, at the end of June this year. The financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed.
Insiders suggest that Hangzhou Xinguangliumei might not be the only target in ByteDance’s sights. Another development team specializing in strategy games (SLG) is reportedly in ongoing acquisition talks with ByteDance.
Founded on June 28, 2016, Hangzhou Xinguangliumei is a company dedicated to independent game development, publishing, operations, and IP creation. Their portfolio includes titles such as “Dragon Knights,” “Rayming Blitz,” “Burning Realm,” “High-Energy Figurine Group,” and “Warring States Chronicles.”
The relationship between ByteDance and Hangzhou Xinguangliumei dates back several years, with multiple collaborations. For instance, in 2021, ByteDance’s subsidiary, Morning Light Years, handled the Japanese market release of Hangzhou Xinguangliumei’s “High-Energy Figurine Group.” After a period of business adjustments, their key in-house project “Rayming Blitz” also secured Morning Light Years as its distribution partner this year, hinting at the strategic alignment that led to the acquisition.
