After five years of dedicated development, the Chinese indie studio NBDR Games is set to launch their ambitious sci-fi ensemble AVG game, “Divine Sin Descends,” on July 17, 2025. This visual novel boasts a deeply intricate narrative, refined over many years, with a sprawling world-building backdrop and a total script exceeding one million words across seven parts. To keep eager players engaged without long waits, the developers have opted for a segmented release approach, similar to the style of “Umineko When They Cry.”
The initial launch on July 17 will include the first two parts, delivering approximately 600,000 words and around 20 hours of gameplay. Each part is priced at 39 yuan, with a 10% discount available for early purchasers.
Since the demo’s release, “Divine Sin Descends” has sparked significant discussion within the AVG community, thanks to its unique personality test system and extensive, intellectually challenging storyline. The crowdfunding campaign on Modian exceeded its initial target by 400% within just 60 seconds, highlighting the strong enthusiasm from players.
The story centers on protagonist Zhou Yucheng, who finds himself threatened by the Enja Defense Science Institute and trapped in a complex situation without clear answers. By chance, he encounters a group of mysterious girls with supernatural abilities, setting off a multi-layered, suspenseful, and mentally stimulating journey.
Players will face critical decisions at various points, with each choice subtly influencing the story’s direction and the characters’ futures. Multiple plot twists weave a complex web of truth.
The game records every player decision and analyzes them through an in-game system akin to the MBTI personality test, categorizing behavioral tendencies and converting them into attribute bonuses for the player character. This innovative feature allows players to gain insight into their personality profiles and subtly alter how characters perceive them, enhancing immersion and offering a personalized gaming experience.
To capture the classic AVG atmosphere, the project enlisted the legendary Japanese studio ZIZZ STUDIO, known for their work on “Steins;Gate” and “Saya no Uta,” to compose the game’s theme music. The final chapter’s theme song, “Ruins of Time and Space,” is performed by singer Kanako Ito.
Visually, the game employs a classic bold-line hand-drawn style, with the first two parts featuring 1,700 scene illustrations and 10,000 dynamic character sprites, vividly portraying supernatural battles and emotional moments. The game also features full Chinese voice acting by prominent domestic voice actors, bringing the characters to life.
On July 17, “Divine Sin Descends” will officially launch on Steam, supporting Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, and Japanese languages, allowing players worldwide to immerse themselves in this Chinese sci-fi mystery narrative.
Additionally, the spin-off mini-game “Where Did Sijia Go?” will host a score competition from July 4 at 18:00 to July 20. Players who follow the official Bilibili or Weibo accounts and join the official QQ group 712071210 will have the chance to win exclusive limited-edition prizes during the event.
