The upcoming Dying Light: Retouched update, set to launch tomorrow, will bring enhanced visuals and completely remastered audio to Techland’s original zombie parkour game on PC and major consoles. However, Nintendo Switch players will be left out of this update.
Techland recently revealed the full scope of this free update, aiming to breathe new life into the decade-old post-apocalyptic survival game. Improvements include upgraded textures and lighting effects, alongside audio rebuilt from the ground up. These enhancements will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch is entirely excluded.
IGN reached out to Techland to inquire about the possibility of the Retouched update coming to the Nintendo Switch or future support for the platform. The studio clearly stated via email that there are no plans for such an update on Switch.
“The Dying Light: Retouched update will not be coming to Nintendo Switch,” Techland explained.
Dying Light originally launched on Nintendo’s hybrid platform in 2021 as a Platinum Edition bundle containing all content. Sales performance remains unclear, but the version was impacted by a German ban, preventing digital purchases in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand’s Switch eShops.
Fans hoping for the Retouched update or similar content on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will also be disappointed. Currently, Dying Light can only be played on Nintendo’s new hardware via backward compatibility.
“We currently have no plans for a Switch 2 version of the original Dying Light,” Techland told us. “Our focus is on releasing Dying Light: The Beast on August 22, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. We have no news regarding Nintendo Switch 2 at this time.”
This means Techland’s support for Nintendo players remains limited to the original Switch’s Dying Light: Platinum Edition. The cloud version of Dying Light 2: Stay Human was announced for Switch in 2021 but has yet to release, with no updates since its 2022 launch on other platforms.
Meanwhile, the spin-off Dying Light: The Beast will launch on August 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with no Nintendo platform support. Series director Tymon SmektaĆa recently told Wccftech that Techland “really wants” to bring The Beast to Switch 2 but currently has “no announcements.”
When Dying Light: Retouched releases tomorrow, it will deliver significant changes to this decade-old zombie game. More details can be found in the developer’s blog post. Our previous review gave Dying Light an 8.5/10 rating.
