Users of the Nintendo Switch 2 who purchased the Dbrand Killswitch grip have reported that the Joy-Con 2 controllers tend to detach more easily from the console when wrapped in the protective case. Multiple users claim that the Killswitch case weakens the magnetic connection. In response, Dbrand has stated that any user experiencing “manufacturing tolerance issues” can contact the company to receive a free replacement set of Joy-Con 2 grips.
Dbrand initially acknowledged the problem in a Reddit post, which received mixed reactions. The post explained that the addition of the Killswitch fills the air gap that should exist between the console and the controller, a gap that is crucial for creating resistance. The edges of the Killswitch eliminate the buffer zone designed to absorb movement between the console and the controller. This buffer acts as a fulcrum when detaching the Joy-Con 2, and its removal has led many users to report that the controllers detach too easily.
Dbrand elaborated: “When holding the Switch 2 in certain ways, the connection between the Joy-Con 2 and the console may come loose. Some users experience this issue, while others do not. This discrepancy is due to manufacturing tolerance issues with the edges that hold the Joy-Con grip to the Joy-Con. Any user facing these manufacturing tolerance problems can contact us, and we will provide improved Joy-Con grips starting in July. A previous update overlooked the fact that the edges have an alternative solution, which has been tested and released in some Switch 2 cases using adhesive. However, adhesives can fail over time or under improper pressure.”
Our own testing confirmed the Killswitch issue reported by several Switch 2 users. It is important to note that reproducing the problem requires holding the Switch 2 at very specific angles and applying considerable force to the console.
While this appears to be an issue affecting only some users, the updated version of the Killswitch grip remains a worthwhile purchase. It excels in ergonomic support and is designed better than competing products like Satisfye and JSAUX. The Killswitch features finger grooves that provide a comfortable and natural grip.
