Tencent-Published MMO “Black Desert” Arrives on Next-Gen Consoles with Major July Update
Developer Pearl Abyss has officially announced that “Black Desert” will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S starting June 26. Alongside this release, the studio revealed plans for a significant content update scheduled for July 10.
The next-generation console versions of “Black Desert” are designed to fully leverage the advanced hardware capabilities, resulting in faster loading times and an overall enhanced gameplay experience. The upcoming July update will introduce a highly requested new class—the Archer—as well as open a brand-new region called Ulukita. These additions will showcase the visual power of the new consoles, delivering richer and more immersive graphics.
Importantly, players transitioning from PS4 or Xbox One to the new platforms will benefit from seamless cross-generation support. All progress, character data, and game history will be preserved, allowing for a smooth continuation of their adventures without any loss.
Originally released on PS4 in August 2019, “Black Desert” gained recognition for its dynamic real-time combat system. While the initial console launch was somewhat limited by the hardware capabilities of that generation, the arrival of the next-gen versions is expected to attract a larger player base and revitalize the community.
Additional notes include the closure of the old console versions coinciding with the June 26 update, as well as the recent shutdown of the Tencent-operated mobile version in China after less than three years. Meanwhile, the PC version continues to thrive, with periodic free access events on Steam and ongoing content expansions.
“Black Desert” remains a prominent MMORPG featuring fantasy elements, player-versus-player combat, and cooperative gameplay. Published by Tencent Games and developed by Pearl Abyss, it is available on PC and PS4, with the next-gen console launch marking a new chapter for the title.
