Dark Horse is set to release a remastered edition of the classic Tomb Raider comic series next week, titled “Tomb Raider Omnibus Volume 1.” Fans who have yet to pre-order this hefty 888-page hardcover can now enjoy a significant discount on Amazon, where the price has dropped from $100 to $78.57, with a release date of July 1. Those who pre-ordered at the original price will have their orders automatically adjusted to the lower price before shipment.
Originally published by Top Cow Productions from 1999 to 2005, the Tomb Raider comics are being reissued in this omnibus format. Volume 1 includes the majority of the series’ issues. For readers seeking a nearly complete storyline, including the mini-series and several one-shots, Volume 2 is recommended. Scheduled for release on November 25, Volume 2 is a 944-page hardcover priced at $100, with Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee ensuring the best deal before release.
Volume 1 (Hardcover) – $78.57 (originally $100) | Release Date: July 1
The Top Cow Tomb Raider comics have long been out of print, with older “archive” editions fetching high prices on the secondary market, often hundreds of dollars per copy.
Volume 1 contains 33 issues, each approximately 25 pages, including:
- Tomb Raider Series Issues #1-24 and #26-34
Notably, Issue #25, which featured a crossover with the Witchblade character from Top Cow, is excluded due to licensing restrictions from Image Comics.
Volume 2 (Hardcover) – $100 | Release Date: November 25
Volume 2 completes Lara Croft’s long-running comic saga, including issues #35-50 and two prequel comics.
After finishing the main series, readers can continue with the “Tomb Raider: Journey” mini-series. Volume 2 includes all 12 issues of this series published between 2001 and 2003.
Though Volume 2 has fewer main series issues, it is thicker due to the inclusion of the Journey mini-series and five one-shot comics, some of which are double-length, such as the 48-page “Greatest Treasure” (2005) and “Arabian Nights” (2004).
Volume 2 (944 pages) includes:
- Tomb Raider Series Issues #0, 1/2, and #35-50
- Tomb Raider: Journey Issues #1-12
- One-shot comics:
- Greatest Treasure (48 pages)
- Arabian Nights (48 pages)
- Origins (24 pages)
- Takeover (36 pages)
- Epiphany (40 pages)
The Top Cow Tomb Raider comics emerged during the franchise’s peak popularity and were well-received. The comic stories share the same universe as the Core Design-developed games, with some adjustments to Lara Croft’s backstory. The series featured contributions from notable artists and writers such as Dan Jurgens, Adam Hughes, Michael Turner, Andy Park, Marc Silvestri, and David Finch.
Since the original series ended in 2005, several other Tomb Raider comics and graphic novels have been published but are now out of print. Fans can still find the official tie-in novel “Tomb Raider: The Shadow Path,” a 320-page paperback released by Titan Books in 2018, priced around $15.
In addition to this omnibus collection, Tomb Raider fans can look forward to other reissues in 2025. On September 19, the physical edition of “Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered” will be released, following the earlier “Tomb Raider I-III Remastered”. This affordable deluxe edition includes a steelbook case and a 150-page exploration manual.
