James Gunn Clarifies Guillermo Del Toro’s Interest in Justice League Dark Film

There has been a persistent rumor that the acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is interested in directing a Justice League Dark movie. While this idea has excited many fans, DC Studios head James Gunn has clarified that del Toro has never expressed this desire to him personally.

Gunn, who co-owns a movie theater with del Toro, told Entertainment Weekly, “I love Guillermo, and we own a movie theater together. By the way, Guillermo’s never said that to me. I hear all these things about, ‘Guillermo would love to do Justice League Dark.’ Well, Guillermo’s never said that to me.”

DC previously released an animated Justice League Dark film in 2017, but the prospect of del Toro leading a new live-action version remains just a rumor. Gunn also mentioned that similar rumors have circulated about other major directors, including Steven Spielberg and his potential Blackhawks movie, none of which have been confirmed by the filmmakers themselves.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Gunn shared how years ago he expressed interest in making a Thunderbolts movie, which led to ongoing speculation. However, the Thunderbolts film was eventually directed by Jake Schreier and released in May, receiving positive feedback from fans.

Gunn is currently focused on his upcoming Superman movie, set to premiere on July 8, shortly after Thunderbolts becomes available for streaming.

This clarification from Gunn helps set the record straight on the status of Justice League Dark and highlights the often speculative nature of Hollywood rumors.
