Chosen, the new owner of Nexus Mods, has reassured fans that mods will “always remain free.” Earlier this week, Robin “DarkOne” Scott announced the sale of Nexus Mods, ending his nearly 24-year leadership. Scott will continue to be involved in some capacity, guiding the site’s overall direction.
Chosen also issued a statement promising that this valuable resource will not adopt “aggressive monetization” or suddenly place mods behind paywalls. The partners Victor (Foledinho), Marinus (Rapsak), and Nikolai (Taagen) are part of the new ownership team under Chosen.
In a post on Nexus Mods, Foledinho told fans, “Mods will always be free.” He emphasized that most things will remain unchanged. Chosen will not claim ownership of any mods nor charge users for downloads. Lifetime Premium subscriptions and free accounts will stay the same. Foledinho also praised Scott’s approach to monetizing the site since 2007.
He stated, “We believe this is the right approach. It supports healthy community growth. We have no intention of changing the core Premium model. It allows users to choose based on their needs, which is a good thing.” He added, “Monetization is difficult; Nexus Mods is a complex platform. The most important thing is to continue supporting mod authors, pleasing users, and maintaining operations. We will not change the core model. No aggressive monetization, no paid mods. If anything, our goal is to reduce ads, not increase them.”
In follow-up messages, Chosen confirmed a commitment to maintaining the diversity and inclusivity approach advocated by Scott during his ownership. So far, Chosen appears to have said all the right things to reassure fans that no fundamental changes are planned. However, Foledinho did not specify how the leadership team plans to reduce ads without losing the revenue they generate.
