Dead By Daylight has recently achieved a new peak in player count following its special crossover event with Five Nights at Freddy’s. On June 17, the multiplayer horror game reached an online player count of 106,029, surpassing its previous record by nearly 1,000 players. The former record was set in 2021 during the Resident Evil crossover, which introduced survivors Leon and Jill Valentine, the Raccoon City map, and the killer Nemesis.
Since its launch in 2016, Dead By Daylight has frequently exceeded 90,000 concurrent players, regardless of crossover events. This latest collaboration added a playable character from Five Nights at Freddy’s — Springtrap, who brings signature elements from the original series such as shock animations, spring doors, and surveillance cameras that impact gameplay. Alongside Springtrap, a new map titled “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza” was also introduced.
Springtrap’s killer designer, Jay Guzzo, commented, “Clearly, the gameplay styles of Five Nights at Freddy’s and Dead By Daylight are fundamentally different. The former requires players to stay in one room managing a single resource (batteries), while the latter emphasizes movement, where staying still leads to quick failure. Our challenge was to merge these experiences by capturing the tension of Five Nights at Freddy’s and translating it into a dynamic gameplay style.”
Behaviour Interactive has developed an extensive roster for Dead By Daylight, featuring 39 killers and 46 survivors, including original characters and iconic horror figures such as Nicolas Cage, the Pinhead from Hellraiser, and the Demogorgon from Stranger Things, making it a dream team of horror icons.
