Nintendo Switch 2 JoyCon HD Rumble Issue: What You Need to Know

The Nintendo Switch 2’s JoyCon controllers have been reported to stop vibrating after prolonged use. Players have noticed that during games with intense HD Rumble feedback, such as sustained high-intensity vibrations, the JoyCon temporarily disables the vibration feature. When this usage threshold is reached, the Switch 2 displays a message: “Vibration has been turned off due to extended use.”

This issue was notably experienced while using the mini-gun in Cyberpunk 2077, where the high-frequency continuous vibration seems to trigger the shutdown. Other players have also observed that holding down the trigger for extended periods can cause the vibration to stop.

Nintendo has not officially explained why the Switch 2 disables HD Rumble under these conditions, but some speculate it might be a protective measure to preserve the JoyCon’s battery life. For most users, including ourselves, the vibration function quickly resumes. However, IGN has reported that some players are experiencing this shutdown more frequently and for longer durations. While this remains anecdotal, it is something to watch closely as it could indicate a deeper hardware issue with the Switch 2 JoyCon.

Despite this quirk, overall player satisfaction with the Switch 2 remains high. It has become Nintendo’s fastest-selling console ever, even with persistent supply shortages. The high demand and limited availability have even led to a million-dollar console theft in Colorado recently.
