Simon Cowell, the renowned music mogul famous for his roles on The X Factor and American Idol, has recently turned his attention to the world of Pokémon card collecting. Known for his sharp eye for talent, Cowell has been spotted investing part of his substantial $600 million fortune into acquiring rare and valuable Pokémon cards.
At a recent London Trading Card show held in South London’s Croydon Boxpark, Cowell, aged 65, was seen purchasing a highly sought-after Rayquaza VMAX Alt Art card, which was graded PSA 10 for its pristine condition. The transaction was captured by the card seller, Onfire Trading Cards, who shared the moment on their Instagram account.
Onfire Trading Cards revealed that Cowell was exploring a variety of cards at the event, with the Rayquaza alone valued at up to $2,700 on the street market. The seller humorously mentioned regretting not performing a song for Cowell during the encounter.
Fans speculate that Cowell’s interest in Pokémon cards might be linked to his 11-year-old son, Eric, suggesting the purchases could be for him. The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) continues to enjoy immense popularity, with cards frequently changing hands for significant sums. Even current packs can contain cards worth a considerable amount, as highlighted by IGN’s guide to the most expensive cards from the Scarlet & Violet expansion.
Among the rarest Pokémon cards are unique items like the one-of-a-kind Popplio signed by Pope Leo, which the owner intends to keep forever. Whether Cowell will attempt to acquire such exclusive cards remains to be seen.
This new hobby showcases a different side of Simon Cowell, blending his passion for collecting with the vibrant culture of Pokémon enthusiasts worldwide.
