Forza Horizon 5, originally an Xbox exclusive racing game, has made a remarkable impact on the PlayStation 5 platform since its release less than three months ago. According to market research firm Alinea Analytics, the game has sold approximately 2.9 million copies on PS5, rapidly approaching the sales figures of the 2024 Game Awards Best Game winner, Ratchet & Clank, on the same platform.
In June alone, Forza Horizon 5 sold an impressive 555,000 copies during a limited-time promotion, securing the fifth spot on the PS5 monthly sales chart. This achievement is particularly notable given the game’s initial launch on Xbox several years ago. The PS5 sales are now closing in on Ratchet & Clank’s total sales, which were last officially reported by Sony in November 2024 at 1.5 million copies.
While Forza Horizon 5 has not yet officially surpassed Ratchet & Clank, industry analysts suggest that with its strong ongoing reputation and potential future discounts, it is poised to do so soon. This milestone represents a significant victory for Microsoft’s multi-platform strategy, demonstrating that PlayStation players are willing to invest in high-quality games originating from Xbox.
This development highlights the evolving dynamics of the gaming industry, where platform exclusivity is becoming more fluid, and quality content can transcend traditional boundaries to reach a broader audience.
