Ready or Not, a tactical first-person shooter developed by VOID Interactive, has experienced a significant increase in its Steam player peak despite facing a wave of negative reviews recently. The game, which initially launched in early access in 2021 and officially released its 1.0 version in 2023, is set in the fictional American city of Los Suenos and focuses on realistic tactical squad-based shooting gameplay.
During preparations for its console release, the developers made several content adjustments to meet rating requirements, including removing some nudity, reducing graphic violence, and altering sensitive storylines. These changes sparked dissatisfaction among some PC players, leading to a review bombing campaign on Steam that temporarily lowered the game’s overall rating to “Mostly Negative.”
However, this backlash did not significantly impact the game’s popularity. On July 6, Ready or Not reached a new Steam concurrent player peak of 17,269, a substantial increase from 6,000 players on June 26. This surge is largely attributed to the Steam Summer Sale, where the game was offered at a 50% discount, attracting many new players.
The console versions are also generating excitement, with the Deluxe Digital Edition topping the PlayStation Store pre-order charts. The official console launch is scheduled for July 15, featuring a Standard Edition priced at $50 and a Deluxe Edition with DLC priced at $70. Both versions will include new single-player campaigns and multiplayer cooperative missions, expanding the game’s content further.
This resilience in player interest despite controversy highlights Ready or Not’s strong appeal within the tactical shooter community and its potential for continued growth across platforms.
