Rockstar Games Should Launch Exciting Zombie DLC Early for GTA6

Rockstar Games, the renowned developer behind Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, has recently sparked discussions about the possibility of creating a supernatural-themed game. Although no official announcement has been made, fan speculation and community discussions have intensified following hints in recent content drops and online forums.

Since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, players have eagerly awaited a return to the kind of DLC like the original “Undead Nightmare,” which featured a zombie apocalypse theme. While Rockstar introduced Red Dead Online, it never released a similar official zombie-themed expansion.

Nearly seven years after the game’s launch, Rockstar finally released a new update for Red Dead Online called “Western Weirds,” introducing four new missions involving plagues, modern science myths, swamp legends, and wilderness tales. This update marked the first time players faced zombies and supernatural creatures directly in the game.

Media outlets like Gamerant have suggested that Rockstar should learn from past experiences and avoid slow content updates for GTA6. For example, the original Red Dead Redemption launched its “Undead Nightmare” DLC just five months after the base game, which was a commercial and critical success despite its unusual “Western + Zombies” theme.

Unfortunately, Red Dead Redemption 2 never received a similar single-player expansion, and Rockstar has largely abandoned the tradition of single-player DLCs for its games.

Given the popularity of supernatural and zombie content among players, it is recommended that Rockstar incorporate similar themes into GTA6. With GTA6 expected to release in May 2026, a zombie-themed event or DLC around Halloween of the same year could create a thrilling horror experience in a southern city setting.

Since GTA6’s main setting is inspired by Florida, Rockstar could also introduce beach monster attacks or storylines involving AI uprisings and social media crises, adding futuristic “Terminator” style threats. These additions would enrich GTA Online’s ecosystem without feeling out of place if paced well.

The success of GTA5 over the past decade has been largely driven by continuous updates to GTA Online. In contrast, Red Dead Online has seen a decline in activity after the “Blood Money” update, missing opportunities to keep its community engaged.

Therefore, if Rockstar can release quirky DLCs like “Western Weirds” or “Undead Nightmare” early in GTA6 Online’s lifecycle, it would maintain player interest and reduce churn. Instead of making players wait years, capitalizing on the initial hype with popular content is a smarter strategy.
