Minecraft’s official social media channels have recently dropped cryptic hints about an upcoming significant update involving copper. A teasing message on the Minecraft Twitter account said “C U in the mines!” while an Instagram post showed a cave interior with blocks spelling “CU 29” alongside coordinates “Teleported Steve to 29, 11, 63.54.” These clues reference copper’s chemical symbol (Cu), its atomic number (29), group (11), and atomic mass (63.54), confirming the update’s focus on copper.
Copper has been part of Minecraft for a while, available as an ore that players can mine and smelt into various items like blocks, ingots, stairs, and doors. The game even features different states of copper, such as exposed, weathered, and oxidized, allowing for diverse building options.
Back in 2021, Mojang proposed a copper golem as a potential new mob during Minecraft Live’s Mob Vote. Although it didn’t win, the copper golem remains a fan favorite, often referenced as an Easter egg in later Mob Votes. This mob would function similarly to other golems but with unique traits like pressing copper buttons randomly. It would also oxidize over time, turning into a statue unless players used an axe to chisel off the oxidation or if struck by lightning.
Fans are excited about the possibility of the copper golem making a comeback, especially after another official tease on Minecraft’s YouTube channel. The video features Minecraft director Agnes Larsson visiting a real mine, and early gameplay footage shows a house shaped like a copper golem made from copper blocks.
While the exact details of the update remain under wraps, the hints strongly suggest a new underground adventure centered around copper. Players will have to wait to see what Mojang has in store.
Last month, Minecraft received a major graphical enhancement through the Vibrant Visuals update, available on supported platforms.
