11bit Studios Addresses AI Content Controversy in Life in Multiple Worlds

11bit Studios recently responded to the controversy surrounding the use of AI-generated content in their game Life in Multiple Worlds. Players had noticed that some in-game text appeared to be produced by large language models. According to Steam store policies, any game containing pre-generated or real-time AI content must disclose this information. Since Life in Multiple Worlds’ store page stated no AI was used, some players expressed dissatisfaction.

The studio explained that the text in question was originally a temporary placeholder during development. The team “never intended to keep this text in the final version. However, due to internal oversight, the placeholder text was mistakenly left in the game. A thorough review has been conducted, confirming this was an isolated incident. The related assets are currently being updated.”

Additionally, 11bit Studios admitted to using AI in localization. Due to tight deadlines, the social area videos were translated using AI instead of their usual translation partners to ensure timely release. The studio plans to have professional translation companies perform formal localization corrections post-launch to maintain subtitle quality consistent with the rest of the game. Replacement work is underway, and updated content is gradually being released.
