A YouTube creator known as JacktheLightning recently unveiled an impressive video project where he recreated the iconic opening cinematic of “Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty” using Unreal Engine 5.
According to JacktheLightning, the production of this video took over two years. His goal was to pay tribute to the original director Hideo Kojima by meticulously replicating the cinematic atmosphere. The project features high-quality textures and dynamic lighting to capture the film-like feel of the original.
The video closely mirrors the original in terms of background scenes, camera movements, and overall pacing, instantly bringing back the awe experienced by players when they first played MGS2 in 2001. However, some players noted that while the new 3D model of Solid Snake is excellent, the character animations appear somewhat stiff and lack natural fluidity.
It is important to note that this is a fan-made project and not an official remake. Therefore, its visual polish and detail refinement cannot match recent official releases like “Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater.” Nonetheless, from both a nostalgic and technical perspective, this work deserves recognition.
