Are you planning to unlock the monorail in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? This mode of transportation is one of the most crucial tools for connecting regions to the Chiral Network missions. It allows you to easily transport large amounts of cargo from one location to another.
How to Unlock the Monorail in Death Stranding 2 – Monorail Guide
The monorail unlocks after completing Order 12: “Investigate the abnormal tar flow near F1.” Here’s a brief overview:
- Upon arriving at the F1 area, you will face a giant mech BT battle.
- After defeating the enemy, you will have conversations with the settlement leader and Fragile.
- The next day, Sam can talk to the main NPC again and will receive a mission to restore power to a nearby mine.
How to Restore Power to the Mine
To unlock the monorail, make sure you have the required resources—resin and special alloys—loaded onto your vehicle. Also, have at least 2000 Chiral Crystals in your backpack.
The mine is located directly north of the F1 facility. You need to cross several rivers to reach it, but there are no enemy bases in the area, so it should be a quick trip.
Once inside the mine, donate the resources via the terminal. When you see the “Mine” option, donate 2000 Chiral Crystals to receive 4800 special alloys in return.
You can also gather a large number of Chiral Crystals outside the mine.
How to Transport Large Amounts of Resources and Vehicles
Trying to carry four tons of minerals manually is a bad idea. Fortunately, the monorail system speeds up transportation. Here’s how:
- Select “Load Cargo” and place all special alloys into one container.
- Select “Load Vehicle” and place your trike cruiser into another container.
- Choose “Board Monorail” and then press the “Depart” button.
You will find yourself riding alongside the monorail as it travels from the mine back to the West Knot City facility.
Note: Future transport missions follow the same process. Load large amounts of resources and items, along with your vehicle, then ride the monorail to the destination.
The monorail network allows you to transfer thousands of kilograms of resources from one area to another.
How to Expand the Monorail System Further
As the story progresses, you will unlock new monorail junctions and lines. Sometimes you need to complete facility missions, other times you must donate enough resources to repair hubs or parts of the railway network. Players can also contribute their own resources to help connect the monorail, usually requiring Chiral Crystals, resin, and special alloys.
By repairing the monorail network, you reconnect this vast wasteland region.
How to Use the Monorail Zipline
You can also traverse the monorail network using ziplines. The prerequisite is repairing two or more connected junctions. Then, when interacting with a junction terminal, a button prompt to use the zipline will appear.
However, you cannot carry vehicles but can bring a floating vehicle. To return to the previous location, simply turn around and press the button prompt again. Lastly, note that you can independently build zipline structures and connect them to the monorail network, creating alternative ways to move.
Quickly traverse long distances using the monorail ziplines.
