Oakland Man Arrested for Stealing $10,000 Worth of Nintendo Switch Games from Libraries

In Marin County, California, a 45-year-old Oakland man named Jamal Reed-Obafumi was arrested on June 17, 2025, for his alleged involvement in at least seven library theft cases. Authorities reported that between April and June 2025, he stole approximately $10,000 worth of Nintendo Switch games from multiple library branches.

Currently held in Marin County Jail, Reed-Obafumi faces 12 felony charges, including multiple counts of burglary and committing crimes while out on bail. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of protecting community libraries to ensure safe access for everyone.

Although the specific libraries targeted have not been publicly named, the Marin County Free Library system offers nearly 200 Nintendo Switch games for free borrowing on its official website. It remains unclear whether the stolen games have been recovered.

This incident is not isolated; previously, thousands of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles worth over $1.4 million were reported stolen from a transport truck in the U.S., highlighting a concerning trend in Switch-related thefts.
