Remedy Implements Major Updates to FBC: Firebreak Following Player Feedback

Remedy is rolling out significant updates to FBC: Firebreak after the cooperative three-player shooter encountered considerable criticism from its player base. Gamers reported issues with matchmaking, insufficient tutorials, and a lack of progression through unlockable cosmetics and weapons.

In a statement on Steam, Remedy expressed mixed feelings about the launch: “Releasing FBC: Firebreak marks a major milestone for us, not only as our first online co-op game but also as a self-published title. While many aspects have gone well, it’s clear that not everything met expectations.”

The latest patch addresses UI improvements and adjusts the cost of unlockables. Unlockables have been reorganized into two groups: operational requisitions and essentials. Operational requisitions now consist solely of cosmetics such as sprays and armor sets, while essentials include gear and weapons, which are now easier to obtain.

Remedy also plans to enhance the initial gameplay experience by better explaining how crisis kits function and providing clearer mission objectives. New players will gain immediate access to all jobs without being restricted to lower difficulty levels at the start.

The studio is analyzing player data and brainstorming further improvements but acknowledges that more time is needed to implement these changes.

“Today’s patch is just the beginning,” Remedy stated. “We are actively planning broader enhancements based on player feedback and our observations.”

FBC: Firebreak was highly anticipated, especially following Remedy’s success with single-player titles like Control and Alan Wake 2. Despite enjoyable gameplay, the game faced numerous issues at launch. Many fans remain hopeful that Remedy will refine FBC: Firebreak into a rewarding and entertaining experience.

Mark Delaney of GameSpot noted, “With the game available on two subscription services, some players might try it and be discouraged by a rough initial impression, potentially abandoning it early. However, those who persevere will find a fun and chaotic co-op PvE experience. The game sometimes falters by not adequately teaching key mechanics, but once players understand these, FBC: Firebreak offers an exciting power fantasy and an intriguing experiment for Remedy between its larger projects.”
