SnyderCut Subreddit Responds After James Gunn Rejects Call for Mass Review Bombing of Superman Movie

The moderators of the SnyderCut subreddit have removed a post that urged fans to review bomb the upcoming Superman movie and issued a statement to their community members. This action came after James Gunn, head of the DC Universe, dismissed the call for a mass negative review campaign.

The original post encouraged fans to “spread spoilers everywhere,” “leave negative reviews on rating sites,” and “book tickets online but not complete the purchase.” It ended with a call to “strike back” against Gunn, who was accused of “killing the Snyderverse.”

James Gunn responded to the post on social media, downplaying its potential impact on the movie’s success. “Haha, I think we’ll be fine,” he said, adding that only a handful of people were involved and unlikely to affect the outcome.

The subreddit moderators explained that they deleted the post about two hours after it was published due to low engagement and policy violations. They emphasized that the post did not represent the views of the moderators or the community and that they do not support dishonest or manipulative actions aimed at preventing others from choosing to watch the movie.

This incident is not the first time the Snyderverse fanbase has made headlines. Fans played a significant role in the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021, and last year, David Ayer, director of the 2016 Suicide Squad, responded to backlash after supporting Gunn’s Superman and its first trailer.

Ayer, who directed a widely criticized film that was part of the now-defunct Snyder DCEU, initially urged fans not to launch a new “Ayer Cut” campaign alongside the Superman trailer release. He later expressed exhaustion over the social media drama and announced he would step back from the discussions.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, James Gunn addressed the phenomenon of some Snyderverse fans hoping for the failure of Superman and his new DC Universe. He said he doesn’t mind the opposition, believing that not everyone should support him. Gunn mentioned that one of the top five actors in the Superman series reads all online comments and can be hurt by negative remarks. However, he pointed out that the trailer received 97-98% positive reactions, which helps balance the perception.

Gunn also explained why he dropped subtitles for the upcoming Superman movie in July and the Supergirl movie next summer.
