Limited Run Games has requested Nintendo to temporarily remove the Gex Trilogy from the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop until a patch addressing backwards compatibility issues is approved and released. The publisher announced on social media that due to delays in patch approval, partly caused by the Juneteenth holiday, the patch will not be available this week. Consequently, they have instructed Nintendo to pull the game from sale in the meantime.
Limited Run Games has encountered backwards compatibility problems with several of its titles originally released for the first Switch console. Although a recent firmware update for Switch 2 improved compatibility for most games, Gex Trilogy remains affected. The publisher submitted a patch last week to fix the issue and expects approval early next week.
In the interim, players are advised to check if other Limited Run Games titles are functioning correctly on Switch 2. These include Clock Tower: Rewind, Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection, Tomba! Special Edition, River City Girls Zero, A Boy and his Blob Collection, Rocket Knight Adventures, Shantae, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Retro Collection, Xtreme Sports, Trip World DX, Felix the Cat, and Rendering Ranger R-2: Rewind.
Gex Trilogy is a remastered collection of the three classic platformer games starring the witty gecko Gex: Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. Originally released in 1995 on 3DO and later ported to PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC, the trilogy was re-released on June 16 for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series, and previous generation consoles. The remaster has generated excitement as no new Gex titles have been released since the late 1990s.
Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units since launch, but third-party game sales have shown mixed results. Limited Run Games continues to work with Nintendo to resolve the compatibility issues and appreciates player patience during this process.
