Sui Jiu Dan Qing: A Unique Blend of Match-3 Merging and Chinese-Style City Building Launching on Steam

The fusion of match-3 merging and simulation building? The Chinese-style casual city-building game “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” is set to launch on the Steam platform on July 16.

The independent Chinese game development team, Cat Rolling Studio, along with the publisher Indienova, announced that the Chinese-style casual city-building game “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” will be available on Steam starting July 16. The original price is 42 yuan, with a special launch discount of 37.8 yuan for the first two weeks. Currently, the game is running a crowdfunding campaign on Modian, offering chances to obtain numerous exquisite peripherals.

“Sui Jiu Dan Qing” combines match-3 merging gameplay with a fictional historical setting, using Tang and Song dynasty aesthetics as its artistic foundation. Players guide the common people to harness the power of merging, developing five culturally distinct regions into prosperous ideal homes through exploration, construction, production, and trade.

Unlike most other city-building games, “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” creatively integrates match-3 merging mechanics with resource management systems, offering a unique gameplay experience. Players can freely adjust building layouts by clicking and dragging, and by consuming certain resources, adjacent low-level buildings can be merged into higher-level ones, unlocking more content and gameplay features. The game will also gradually unlock buildings with automatic resource collection functions.

Developed over two years by a two-person domestic team, “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” incorporates meticulous historical research and field studies, blending fictional fantasy elements to vividly recreate the architectural elegance of the Tang and Song dynasties. Most buildings in the game are inspired by ancient paintings and architecture, combined with artistic design and gameplay, incorporating features from different eras and cultures.

The full version of “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” will include five levels, each with distinct regional characteristics and cultural environments, with gameplay mechanics varying accordingly. These include the Peach Blossom Spring village in Jiangnan, the camel bell-sounding desert of Dunhuang, the vast sea area of Citong, the four-season-rich Jin city, and the ancient capital Chang’an dream. Each map boasts unique architectural styles and innovative mechanics.

In the “Camel Bell Sound” and “Vast Sea” levels, players can experience trade caravan gameplay along the land and maritime Silk Roads respectively. The “Four Seasons Rich” level introduces a dynamic seasonal system, while the final map, “Chang’an Dream,” features buildings with the “scholar, farmer, artisan, merchant” attributes. These carefully designed additional mechanics not only enrich the game content but also greatly enhance playability.

After achieving prosperity goals and completing level tasks, players can choose to continue playing without pressure, enjoying the fun of town building and decoration at their leisure. On July 16, pick up your brush and paint across time to create your ideal home.
