The Fusion of Match-3 and City Building: “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” – A Chinese Style Casual City Builder Launching on Steam July 16

The independent Chinese game development team, Mao Gun Gun Studio, along with publisher Indienova, announced that the Chinese-style casual city-building game “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” will be released on Steam on July 16. The original price is 42 yuan, with a special launch discount of 37.8 yuan for the first two weeks. Currently, the game is also running a crowdfunding campaign on Modian, offering chances to obtain exquisite merchandise.

“Sui Jiu Dan Qing” combines match-3 merging gameplay with a fictional historical setting inspired by the Tang and Song dynasties. Players guide hardworking villagers to develop five culturally distinct regions into prosperous ideal homes through exploration, construction, production, and trade.

Unlike most city-building games, “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” creatively integrates match-3 merging mechanics with resource management. Players can freely adjust building layouts by clicking and dragging. By consuming resources, adjacent low-level buildings can be merged into higher-level ones, unlocking more content and gameplay features. The game will also gradually unlock buildings with automatic resource collection functions.

Developed by a two-person domestic team over two years, the game incorporates detailed historical research and field studies, blending fantasy elements to recreate the architectural elegance of the Tang and Song eras. Most buildings are inspired by ancient paintings and architecture, combined with artistic design and gameplay, incorporating features from different eras and cultures.

The full version of “Sui Jiu Dan Qing” includes five levels, each with distinct regional characteristics and cultural environments, along with unique gameplay mechanics: Peach Blossom Land (Jiangnan village), Camel Bells (Dunhuang desert), Vast Sea and Sky (Citong sea area), Four Seasons Abundance (Jincheng), and Dream of Chang’an (ancient capital Chang’an).

Each map features unique architectural styles and innovative mechanics: in “Camel Bells” and “Vast Sea and Sky,” players can experience trade routes along the land and maritime Silk Roads; “Four Seasons Abundance” introduces a dynamic seasonal system; and the final map, “Dream of Chang’an,” assigns buildings with social class attributes such as scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants. These carefully designed additional mechanics enrich the gameplay and greatly enhance replayability. After achieving prosperity goals and completing level tasks, players can continue building and decorating their towns without pressure.

On July 16, pick up your brush and paint your ideal home, traversing time and history in “Sui Jiu Dan Qing.”
