Developer Funcom has announced that Dune: Awakening will receive regular new content updates, with major free updates arriving every three to four months. These updates will include new storylines and PvE content. They will be released alongside paid DLCs, which players can purchase separately or access through a season pass.
Executive Producer Scott Junior revealed plans to add new PvE exploration maps in the future, though it is not yet confirmed if these will be part of the free updates. An update featuring numerous quality-of-life improvements is scheduled for early July, with detailed information to be shared before testing begins.
During an AMA, Funcom discussed several planned improvements, such as allowing players to name storage containers and vehicles, and adjustments to the PvP-focused endgame. Currently, the endgame zone “The Deep Desert” heavily relies on flying vehicles, which diminishes the effectiveness of melee and firearms combat. Creative Director Joel Bylos stated the team is working on balancing vehicles and ground combat.
Future updates will also introduce player dueling, a one-click water storage option, changes to the endgame PvE council system, new mission contracts, and a third faction that will “completely change council dynamics.” The game has performed strongly on Steam, with over 140,000 concurrent players. A console version is expected to launch in 2026.
