Beat Saber Ends Support for PS4 and PS5: What This Means for VR Fans

The popular rhythm game Beat Saber is officially ending support for PlayStation consoles. Starting June 2025, PS4 and PS5 players will no longer receive updates or new music packs, and multiplayer functionality will be disabled after January 21, 2026.

The developer stated that future efforts will focus on significant advancements in the game, but all previously purchased content will remain accessible. Cross-platform purchases between PS4 and PS5 versions will still be supported. Songs and music packs released before June 19 will remain available for purchase, but no new content will be added after that date.

This decision is seen by many as a major blow to the PSVR ecosystem, as Beat Saber remains a flagship title for the platform. The community debate centers around Sony’s limited support for VR hardware and Meta’s competitive strategy to strengthen the Quest platform.

Since the release of PSVR2 in 2023, the device has struggled to gain momentum. Sony has significantly cut VR project budgets and currently only has two first-party VR games in development. Although adding PCVR support temporarily boosted sales, the headset’s price recently dropped to historic lows.

Reviews highlight that PSVR2 offers superior visuals, controls, and immersion compared to the original, but the lack of launch titles and incompatibility with previous generation content have hindered its growth. Its 4K HDR display and haptic controllers set a new standard for console VR, yet content scarcity remains the biggest challenge.
